Lymphedema Clinic

Lymphedema refers to swelling that occurs most often in the arms or legs. It usually affects only one arm or leg, but occasionally affects both arms and legs. Swelling occurs when a blockage in the lymphatic system prevents the lymph fluid in the arm or leg from draining adequately. As fluid accumulates, swelling continues. Lymphedema has not been adequately recognized as a serious health problem. However, this is slowly changing due to education and greater public awareness. The danger of lymphedema is that there is a constant risk of developing an uncontrolled infection in the affected limb. No cure for lymphedema exists thus far. But comprehensive rehabilitation programs can be used to successfully control the symptoms of lymphedema. The comprehensive decongestive lymphatic physiotherapy (CDPT) includes manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), provided by our specialized physicians and staff.
