Orthotic braces help to improve the function of weakened muscles and joints. These can also be used to correct changes in joint structure due to congenital deformities or spasticity as well as to protect weakened joints. Orthotic braces are used for foot drop due to stroke or nerve damage, general weakness of the leg, wrist drop, gait disturbances in children, scoliosis, etc.
There are many different types of orthotic devices that could be used in the short-term, during the rehabilitation process, or long-term for a chronic condition. Prosthetic devices are used for individuals who lose a limb due to an accident or illness, or those born without a limb (or limbs), to regain function. We offer a multidisciplinary clinic for patients who need orthotic or prosthetic devices. The orthotics and prosthesis are custom-fitted for individual patients and changes are made when necessary.
