Introduction
This treatment uses the biofeedback mechanism of the human body. The patient can experience this physiological phenomenon both visually and auditorily through computer programs. Regulation of this phenomenon is achieved through training programs. This treatment is indicated for facial palsy (half weakness of the face), hand function impairment after stroke, and knee or ankle joint strengthening.
Application
Mechanical instruments are used to detect physiological signals converted from voluntary muscle contractions. The signals are presented to the patient either in a visual or auditory form (various animations or real-life images). Visual or auditory senses respond to the signals and patient can then regulate the contractions voluntarily according to the changes in signal. Repetitive training of the above process will help the patients recover the strength of weakened muscles.
