Procedure

Unlike in other types of organ transplantation, the heart can only be donated by deceased donors.

Preparation

Several tests will be taken as soon as you arrive at your patient room. Please note that in some cases some problems of a donated heart are spotted almost at the final stage of the surgery and found unsuitable for transplantation.

Note

Please make sure to leave your active contact number while on the waiting list. You can contact your family after hospitalization whenever you desire. After admission, your family would stay in a waiting room.

Recipient Eligibility

Criteria

1. The need for a prompt transplant
2. Prospective recipients’ waiting time
3. Blood type match with the donor
4. Current infectious diseases
5. History of organ donation including spouses, direct ancestors and descendants, siblings, uncles, aunts, and cousins
6. Geographical proximity with the donor
7. The age of prospective recipients
8. The age difference with the donor
9. The weight difference with the donor

- A score is even to each criterion and the priority is set based on its sum.
