Surgery Procedure

Note

Screening (5 to 7 Days)

  • This step requires about a week of hospitalization.
  • Necessary tests for transplantation (blood, pulmonary and cardiac function, and infection tests) are conducted during the stay.
  • Based on the results, the patient may be put on the list.

Waiting (1 to 6 Months)

  • After recipient registration, the patient waits for donation from a deceased donor and regularly pays outpatient visits for checkup.
  • Please leave your contact to the Center and keep your contact always active.
  • If the contact information is changed or you experience any abnormal condition, please contact the Center at anytime.

Lung Transplant Surgery (4 to 8 Hours)

  • When a deceased donor’s donation is confirmed, the donor’ pulmonary functions are evaluated.
  • If the lungs are considered suitable and the donor and the recipient are a good match (based on blood types, lung sizes, etc.), the operation is permitted.
  • The patient should not eat anything after receiving the notice and follows a hospitalization process.
  • After admission, the patient takes some tests to check the current state.
  • Please note that in some cases some problems of a donated heart are spotted even right before the operation and found unsuitable for transplantation.

Recovery (Acute Phase: 3 Months)

  • 3 to 4 weeks of hospitalization: One week at an ICU and 3 weeks at a general ward
  • Regular outpatient visits are required after discharge.
  • The patient should take immunosuppressants constantly and be careful not to get infected.
