Established on November 9, 1994 with the goal to ‘create new medical culture that contributes to improvement of the national health’, Samsung Medical Center has been leading new changes in the medical culture of Korea with encouragements and supports from you.

In order to realize the advanced patient-centered medical culture, SMC has been introducing the latest medical equipments, creating pleasant environments for patients and developing new medical services through the joint effort by the entire staff. While succeeding in a number of operations for the first time in Korea, SMC has also been producing the achievements of advancing to the level of the world-class advanced hospitals in the entire fields of medicine, such as treatment of cancer and cardiovascular disease and the organ transplants that require a high degree of expertise, etc.

In addition, through ceaseless research activities, SMC is recording outstanding academic results both at home and abroad. SMC was also selected as the No. 1 organization in Korea for the national journal citation index. As such, SMC is further uplifting the reputation as the ‘research hospital’.

In the fields of education, SMC, since establishment of the Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine in 1997, has been realizing the optimal education for the medical students as a teaching hospital. At the same time, SMC is providing the optimal educational conditions for our residents, therefore is solidifying our position as the cradle of the outstanding medical personnel that will lead the future of medicine.

Despite the short history, SMC has advanced as the top-level hospital in the three core fields of medical service, research and education. Patient-centered in the genuine sense, SMC has developed into the most representative medical organization of Korea that is loved by the entire nation.

With opening of Samsung Cancer Center on March 2008 that consists of 11 aboveground and 8 underground levels with 700 sickbeds, SMC has opened up the era of 2,000 sickbeds, therefore is being acknowledged as the medical hub of Asia equipped with the scale and service quality of the global standard.

In the days ahead, SMC will promote harmonious development of medical service, research and education as the ‘leading hospital of the best services that prioritizes patients’. We promise to strive further to advance as the world-class hospital that leads development of medicine in Asia.
