The Pancreato - Biliary Cancer Center is comprised of faculty, fellows, residents and nurses from the Department of Gastroenterology, Department of Pancreato – Biliary Surgery, Department of Hematology and Oncology and Department of Radiation Oncology in charge of treatment as well as from the Department of Radiology, Department of Pathology and Department of Laboratory Medicine that provides various information on the treatment of pancreato – biliary cancer.
Based on the organic collaborative system, we are endeavoring to provide the best patient-centered medical service from diagnosis and treatment to follow-up care. The Pancreato – Biliary Cancer Center, through sufficient conferencing with the related departments, has selected pancreatic carcinoma, gallbladder carcinoma, hilar cholangiocarcinoma and peripheral cholangiocarcinoma as the four major cancer varieties. In relation to these conditions, we have established standardized practice guidelines to achieve the most appropriate treatments for our patients.
For the best treatment and the latest study, the faculty of the Pancreato – Biliary Cancer Center is continuously participating in training courses abroad to keep up with the global trends in our medical service field. In addition, through collaboration with the leading cancer centers of Korea, we are exchanging information and pursuing joint research projects. By continuously establishing study plans and focusing on securing research personnel and the required fund, we are also dedicating our efforts to media publicity and education of the public.
In order to expedite the process from diagnosis to treatment, the Pancreato – Biliary Cancer Center administers various tests in a short period of time. Also, we are operating outpatient and inpatient services appropriately. On a patient’s first visit to our center, the Department of Gastroenterology makes the diagnosis and administers treatment on the acute complications. Based on this diagnosis and decisions made by the Department of Gastroenterology, surgical treatment, chemotherapy by the Department of Hematology and Oncology and radiation therapy by the Department of Radiation Oncology are organically administered. Since the decisions are made through inter-departmental conferences and by reviewing opinions from the faculty and fellows of the Department of Radiology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, we are able to provide the most appropriate treatments to all of our patients.
