Urinary Cancer Center
Dealing with malignant tumors developed on the urinary and reproductive organs, such as bladder cancer, renal cell carcinoma, prostatic cancer and testicular tumor, the Urinary Cancer Team comprises of the specialists from the Department of Urology, Department of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology and Department of Pathology. We are endeavoring to provide the best medical service and convenience to our patients through organic collaboration with the relevant departments in the processes of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up observation of urinary cancer patients.
Through regular case conferences, we exchange information and knowledge on the special fields of urinary cancer and also endeavor to achieve the best treatment and care for our patients.
For prostatic cancer, of which the onset rate is frequently increasing in males among all urinary cancer varieties, we are employing a number of effective techniques, such as surgery, radiation therapy and high intensity focused ultrasound, a minimally invasive surgery technique. The surgical treatment is administered in 4 ways – robotic surgery, laparoscopy, perineal approach and retropubic approach.
Of the four aforementioned techniques, the Urinary Cancer Team decides the most appropriate method for a patient by considering the patient’s conditions and characteristics.
SMC is the only hospital in Korea that administers high intensity ultrasound as a minimally invasive surgery of prostatic cancer.
