The Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery offers a comprehensive management of the head, neck and throat diseases. We are also dedicated to supporting basic and clinical research programs and fostering top-notch physicians. It is true that this particular field of medicine dealt only with the ears, nose and throat in the past. However, with remarkable technological advances that involve microscopic and endoscopic surgeries, the boundaries of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery have been greatly expanded, leading to the organization of specialized divisions for specific diseases.
The Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery deals with the ear diseases, such as chronic otitis media, otitis media with effusion, dizziness related to the balance machinery and other facial palsy-related diseases. While offering diagnoses and hearing aid treatments to the patients suffering from hardness of hearing, we are promoting auditory rehabilitation by administering cochlear implant on patients with the severe hardness of hearing on both ears. In addition, through cooperation with the Department of Neurosurgery, we administer surgical treatments on patients of brain tumor at the cranial base, such as acoustic tumor.
We are also dealing with the nose diseases. In addition to diagnosing and treating allergic rhinitis, septal deviation and sinusitis, we also administer surgical operations on pituitary tumors in the brain and benign tumors in the nose by using endoscopy. Recently, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is also administering functional and aesthetic plastic surgery to correct not only the aesthetic, but also the functional aspects of the nose.
As for the head area, we treat the tumors on the head and neck with the exception of the eyeball. We diagnose cancers developed on the head and neck areas, such as oral cancer, laryngeal cancer, pharynx cancer, paranasal sinus cancer and salivary gland cancer, and administer surgical operations accordingly. In particular, The defective parts after removing tumor are reconstructed by using free-flaps to maintain their the original functions.
