Emergency medicine is a specialty devoted to providing comprehensive, timely and effective treatment and management of patients in acutely unstable conditions with varying severity and backgrounds. In short, it is the full range of acute patient care services delivered in emergency centers and pertinent facilities.
The creation of the specialty of emergency medicine took place in 1996 in Korea, a relatively recent event. Since then, emergency medicine specialists have taken primary responsibility for the increasing demand and complexity of emergency care in almost every tertiary-level medical institution.
