The Korean Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation Awards Prof. Sung Ki Woong Academic Prize and Prof. Yoo Keon-Hee Outstanding Paper Prize

At the 21st Meeting of the Korean Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, convened on August 19 and 20 in Busan, Prof. Sung Ki Woong from the Department of Pediatrics in SMC was awarded the Academic Prize. Prof. Sung developed a new treatment method involving continuous high-dose chemotherapy and autologous transplantation of hematopoietic stem cell for various intractable solid cancers such as neuroblastoma and brain tumors in children, dramatically increasing the survival rate.

In addition, Prof. Yoo Keon-Hee from the Department of Pediatrics won this year’s Outstanding Paper Prize with his research paper on complications in the nervous system occurring after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. By that, SMC’s Department of Pediatrics accomplished a feat of bringing in both the Academic and the Outstanding Paper Prizes in a single year from the Korean Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
