Overseas Medical Volunteers Deliver Love and Warmth to East Timor

From September 3 to 11, Samsung Medical Center opened a medical camp in East Timor in cooperation with ChildFund Korea, providing medical treatment for about 1,000 locals.

Like last year, the medical camp was set up in the Lospalos region, 248 km to the east of Dili, East Timor’s capital. The 11 volunteers included five doctors, Prof. Kim Hyung-Jin from Department of Rheumatology, Prof. Oh Soo Young from Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Prof. Yoon Hee from Department of Emergency Medicine among others, as well as three nurses; in East Timor, the team underwent a tight schedule that involved seeing patients and hosting a seminar for local medical professionals on the health of mother and newborn baby. They also delivered about 100 sets of emergency kits, handmade by SMC staff’s children at two sessions of charity classes in July and August.

SMC is actively continuing various volunteer works this year; after the medical camp in East Timor, staff from Department of Ophthalmology is planning to visit Kyrgyzstan from October 1 to 8. Another medical volunteer operation is also scheduled in Vietnam from November 5 to 12 in cooperation with Samsung Electronics.
