Samsung Medical Center-KT MOU, 28GHz Industrial Convergence Expansion Project

Communication Technology, ‘First to Implement’ Within the Clinical Field

Plan to Combine 5G Technology with Medical Education Platform Development/Medical Service Provision

Samsung Medical Center and KT announced on the 8th that they had signed an MOU (on August 4th) to build a high-tech medical education environment through ‘28GHz (Ieum 5G specialized network frequency) industrial convergence expansion project’.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the opening of Samsung Medical Center in 2019, Samsung Medical Center announced its new vision ‘SMC at the frontier of future medicine’ and in order to build a cutting-edge intelligent hospital, it will be promoting Digital Transformation (DX) in the medical field by implementing ICT technology to the overall process within the hospital.

In particular, this project is the ‘world's first’ application of 28GHz communication technology to clinical sites. Through this, the time constraint in the field of medical education, which was mainly conducted in the existing face-to-face experiential practice, is resolved with Ieum 5G and plans to implement virtual surgical education, rounds education, emergency technique education, and artificial respiration education that are more realistic and practical in the clinical field.

Professor Kim, Hee Cheol, planning director at Samsung Medical Center, had stated, “I hope that the combination of Samsung Medical Center’s professional medical capabilities and KT’s 5G technology will develop a high-efficiency medical education platform and provide high-quality medical services.”
