Health Screening Program

The followings are the items of the General Health Check-up Program which are operated at International Health Services of Samsung Seoul Hospital. The program includes 2 general categories: Basic and Comprehensive. This program is also categorized based on the different age groups.
After choosing the category appropriate for you, please fill out the physical examination questionnaire and return to us by fax or in person. The IHS staff will review the questionnaire together with the physician and determine if additional tests would be needed based on your medical history. You will then be notified about the date of the tests and the preparation necessary prior to the tests.

How to prepare for Health Screening

In general

  • Fasting is required from midnight before the day of your Health Screening appointment.

Ladies

  • It is advisable not to book your appointment during menstruation.
  • If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, please inform the nurses on arrival. You will not be able to do your urine and stool tests, as well as the Pap Smear as the presence of blood in these tests would produce inaccurate results.
  • Please inform if you are pregnant because some tests should avoided during pregnancy.

* Complete blood count: Blood test. It gives information of cells including white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets.
* Lipid profile: A group of blood tests that determines risk of coronary heart disease; includes total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and triglycerides.
* Electrolyte profile: Blood test o detect a problem with the body’s electrolyte balance such as sodium and potassium.
* Chemistry profile: Blood evaluation includes fasting glucose, BUN, creatinine, AST/ALT (to evaluate possibility of liver disease ) etc.
* Urinalysis and micro examination: Urine test.
* Mantoux test: A diagnostic skin test tool for tuberculosis. A standard dose of Tuberculin is injected intradermally (into the skin) and read 48 to 72 hours later.
* Stool examination: To diagnose parasitic infection and to check hidden blood in the stool. Bring your fresh stool sample (1 teaspoonful amount) in a small container preventing it from drying out.
* Electrocardiogram: An assessment for heart function and rhythm to detect any cardiac abnormalities.
* Chest X-Ray: A check for possible pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia and other lung diseases.
* Mammography: The process of using low-dose X-rays to examine the human breast. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer. Please do not use talcum powder or deodorant before your examination.
* Cervicovaginal smear (Pap smear): screening test used in gynecology to detect premalignant and malignant processes in the ectocervix.
* Prostate specific antigen: Blood test for early detection of prostate cancer.
* PT, aPTT, Fibrinogen: Blood test to detect abnormalities in blood clotting.
* Anti-HCV (IgG): Blood test to detect Hepatitis C infection.
* Abdomen and kidney Ultrasound: Diagnostic medical test to help diagnose a variety conditions in abdominal organs and kidneys. Do not take any food at least six hours before the examination.
* HBsAg, HBsAb, HBcAb: Blood test to detect Hepatitis B infection and immunity state.
* CA-19-9: Blood test from the tumor marker category for pancreatic, gastric, colonic and ovarian carcinoma.
* T3, T4, TSH: Blood test to check how well the thyroid functions.

* VDRL(qual): Veneral Disease Research Laboratory test. Screening for syphilis.
* TPHA: Blood test for detection of antibodies against the causative agent of syphilis
* Anti-HIV: Blood test for screening of HIV infection.
* Spirometry and F/V curve: Pulmonary function test
* 2-doppler echocardiogram: A type of ultrasound test which is used to look at how blood flows through the heart chambers, heart valves, and blood vessels.
* Carotid doppler: Carotid doppler ultrasound scanning is a painless procedure that measures the amount of blood flow in the carotid arteries.
* EGD: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is a diagnostic endoscopic procedure that visualizes the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract up to the duodenum. You are supposed to fast for 8 hours. Please get more information of preparation for the test from our staff.
* Sigmoidoscopy: Sigmoidoscopy is the minimally invasive medical examination of the large intestine from the rectum through the last part of the colon. Please get more information of preparation for the test from our staff.
* Colonoscopy: Colonoscopy is the endoscopic examination of the large colon and the distal part of the small bowel with a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus. You are supposed to take some medicine to prepare our bowels. Please get more instruction from our staff.
* AFP: Blood test as a biomarker to detect a subset of tumors, principally hepatocellular carcinoma and endodermal sinus tumors.
* CEA: Carcinoembroynic antigen tested in blood. The best use of CEA is as a tumor marker, especially for cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.
* Calcitonin: Calcitonin levels Serum which is very useful in follow up of medullary thyroid cancer.
* Ferritin: Serum ferritin levels are measured as part of the iron studies workup for anemia.
* Transvaginal Pelvis US: A scan through the vagina (transvaginal scan) using a slender probe which provides significantly more detailed images of the pelvis.
* ABO & RH: Blood test for your blood type.
* Osteocalcin: Blood test used as a biochemical marker for bone formation.
* Bone densitometry: To identify those at risk of developing osteoporosis and to monitor change in bone density.
