Diseases of the ear

Surgical treatment may be necessary for inflammatory acute, chronic otitis media, and exudative otitis media, and we perform not only microscopic surgery but also up-to-date endoscopic surgery using various approaches. Also, we provide diagnosis and auditory rehabilitation for impaired hearing and operate a hearing aid clinic to increase satisfaction. We perform cochlear implantations for patients with severe bilateral hearing loss. Many medical personnel and researchers put the utmost effort into basic and clinical research for patients with impaired hearing in the Hearing Impairment Clinic, with excellent results. We also run a Dizziness Clinic to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment provided to patients with dizziness. We perform surgical treatment in co-operation with the Department of Neurosurgery for brain tumors of the cranial base, such as acoustic neuromas.

Diseases of the nose

We treat various diseases related to the nose, and provide diagnosis and appropriate treatment including surgery for allergic rhinitis, which is one of the most common diseases of the respiratory system; deviated nasal septum; and acute and chronic sinusitis. We have recently begun to use endoscopy to treat benign tumors of the nose, and perform endoscopic surgery for tumors of the cranial base such as hypothalamic tumors in co-operation with the Department of Neurosurgery to help improve the surgical outcome and decrease post-operative complications.
We also perform functional rhinoplasties to improve nasal symptoms, such as nasal congestion and improve patients’ satisfaction. We run a Snoring and Sleep Apnea Clinic to provide not only accurate diagnoses for various sleep disorders including snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, but also versatile treatments including surgery and positive airway pressure treatment.

Head and Neck Section

We are a sub-division treating benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, and provide diagnosis and surgical treatment for vocal disorders such as vocal cord nodules; inflammatory diseases or benign tumors of the head and neck, including laryngopharyngeal reflux disease and sialolithiasis; and cancers such as oral cancer, laryngeal cancer, pharyngeal cancer, sinus cancer, and salivary gland cancer. In particular, head and neck defects created after the removal of cancer cause not only aesthetic problems, but also functional disabilities such as in swallowing, speech, and mastication which need appropriate reconstruction, and our head and neck sub-division performs reconstructive surgery using free flaps to cover the defects and to aid in maintaining post-operative function. Also, we operate a spoken language clinic to diagnose and adequately treat various diseases that can occur in vocal cords.
