Family Medicine Faculty / Medical Staff >

The Department of Family Medicine takes continuous and comprehensive care of health problems that occur in individuals and families.
We provide not only diagnosis and treatment of diseases, but also counseling and management for any kind of details related to disease prevention and health promotion through vaccinations and healthy lifestyle management.
Also, as the modern medical system is highly subdivided and specialized based on disease entities and health care institutions, patients need the help of experts to seek appropriate care. If you don’t know what disease may be causing your symptoms, or if you have trouble choosing between departments because of various concurrent symptoms, the Department of Family Medicine can help you find your way.

The physicians in our department are your family practitioners, who are responsible for your family’s health whether you are sick or healthy, regardless of your age, gender, or type of disease. Seeing and understanding a patient holistically, they even think about the patient’s family.

Strong points

  • A health partner for life from cradle to grave

The family physician is your attending physician who provides continuous medical care for a lifetime, and plays the role of a partner in every process of health promotion, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease from birth till death.

  • Medical care that respects humans rather than body organs or disease

Humans are not simple combinations of body organs. The target of medical care should be the person who is suffering from the disease, not the disease itself. The Department of Family Medicine considers not only the physical health of patients but also mental and social aspects, and always respects our patients as human beings.

  • Family-centered medical care

We help patients to understand and prevent health problems that can be passed down a family line, and provide medical care while considering the effects of disease in one member of the family on other family members and the health effects of family relationships.

Recent trends in clinical research

  • Long-term health promotion for patients who have survived cancer, and risk factors for secondary cancer

Through a first cohort study on cancer survivors in Korea, we have investigated the long-term prognosis of these patients, and the healthy behaviors and genetic and environmen tal factors that influence the occurrence of secondary cancer, and have established a common treatment model that fits the circumstances in Korea.

  • Epidemiologic investigation of genome in Koreans

We have established a cohort with twins and their families, and have investigated genetic and environmental factors related to the occurrence of disease by comparative analysis of epidemiologic and clinical data obtained through physical examination and epidemiologic investigation.
