Samsung Medical Center recently announced that its Department of Transplantation Surgery has been designated as an official Center of Excellence (COE) for Medtronic's Sonicision™ 7, a wireless ultrasonic surgical device. Sonicision 7 is a wireless ultrasonic surgical device that uses ultrasonic energy to simultaneously perform tissue dissection and vessel sealing. Its cordless design enhances instrument maneuverability and mobility during surgery, helping to improve surgical efficiency.
Building on its extensive clinical experience and educational capabilities in the field of transplant surgery, the Division of Transplantation Surgery at Samsung Medical Center plans to operate a Clinical Immersion Program (CIP) and various procedural training programs for domestic and international medical staff, in collaboration with Medtronic. Professor Jong Man Kim of the Division of Transplantation Surgery said, "This designation as a training center reflects recognition of the outstanding surgical skills and educational capabilities held by our Department of Transplantation Surgery." He added, "By providing practical training programs that can be applied directly in clinical settings, we will contribute to enhancing the liver transplantation and hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgical capabilities of medical staff both in Korea and abroad."
Since 2020, the Liver Transplantation Team of Samsung Medical Center's Division of Transplantation Surgery has performed all living donor liver transplant surgeries laparoscopically, leading the field of minimally invasive liver transplantation. Building on its accumulated surgical experience and standardized procedural training system, the team has continuously provided training for transplant specialists from Korea and abroad, and is also actively conducting research on various AI models applicable to surgical planning and prognosis prediction, among other areas.
Meanwhile, in addition to the Division of Transplantation Surgery, the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery and the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeryat Samsung Medical Center have also been designated as official Medtronic Sonicision 7 training centers. Going forward, Samsung Medical Center plans to expand its role as a surgical education platform leading training and technical exchange for medical staff both in Korea and abroad.
