Payment information at a Glance

The following information is provided for international patients who are not enrolled in the Korean National Health Insurance (NHIS). Patients covered by the NHIS should refer to the separate billing procedures.
Our hospital accepts payments in Korean Won only. We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express, and UnionPay.

OPEN CARD service

  • Register your credit card and you may leave the hospital without payment. The transaction will proceed on the same day or next business day.

Self-pay Patient Information (Self-Pay)

  • Outpatient Services

    As per hospital policy, all outpatient cost for exams and treatments (excluding consultation fee) must be paid prior to services being rendered.

  • Inpatient Services

    An estimated cost will be provided during the pre-admission consultation. 80% of the estimated amount must be paid on the admission day. The final bill may vary depending on actual treatment.

  • Emergency Services

    Payment for emergency room visit is made separately at the payment desk in the emergency room.

Insurance & Direct Billing

Samsung Medical Center currently has contracts with several insurance companies and organizations to provide patients convenient, cashless services. If you are covered by the Korean National Health Insurance (NHIS) but wish to use direct billing services, please contact the International Healthcare Center in advance.

Billing Process for International Insurance

  • Step 2 Contact your insurance

    The infromation listed below may be needed when requesting the GOP

    • Date of services
    • Diagnosis/symptom
    • Expected procedure (consultation, test, or medication)
  • Step 3 Your insurance sends us the guarantee

    GOP Received (Yes)

    • You may pay your portion according to your insurance plan.
    • We submit your insurance claims on a monthly basis on your behalf.

    GOP Not Received (No)

    • You will need to pay upfront and claim on your own.

How to Request Guarantee of Payment (GOP)

For outpatient and emergency services, please call the customer service number on your insurance card before your visit and request a GOP.
Please send a copy of the GOP to ihs.smc@samsung.com.

Important notes

  • You may need a separate guarantee for each visit, depending on your plan.
  • If requesting by email, call your insurance to confirm receipt of your request.
  • If the GOP does not arrive before your visit, you will need to pay upfront and claim on your own.
