For the past 30 years, the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Samsung Medical Center has evolved into a comprehensive institution encompassing eight major subspecialties: arthroplasty surgery center (mainly hip and knee), arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine center (mainly shoulder and knee), spine center, pediatric surgery center, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, tumor, and trauma.

Our team specializes in complex, rare, and treatment-resistant orthopedic conditions, including pediatric disorders, intractable diseases, and musculoskeletal cancers. These cases are managed through close interdisciplinary collaboration with leading departments across the hospital, ensuring seamless, advanced, and comprehensive care.
In the field of sports medicine, we are regarded as Korea's premier center, with a growing reputation across the U.S., Europe, and other regions for clinical excellence and surgical innovation. Many patients from around the world seek out our center for state-of-the-art procedures and comprehensive rehabilitation services.
Beyond clinical care, our department actively contributes to the advancement of orthopedic science. We publish regularly in leading SCI(E)-indexed journals such as The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS) and The American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM), and our work has earned national recognition. As the official Asia-Pacific representative for the Arbeitsgemeinschaft fur Osteosynthesefragen (AO), we play a pivotal role in global orthopedic collaboration and standard setting.
Our department also serves as a training hub for visiting international surgeons, offering observerships and fellowships. As a leading tertiary referral center, we remain committed to surgical precision, multidisciplinary integration, and outstanding patient outcomes.
