Personalized, Patient-Centered Rehabilitation Through a Multidisciplinary Team Approach
The Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at Samsung Medical Center provides individualized care for patients with functional impairments caused by neurological or musculoskeletal conditions. Our mission is to enhance recovery and independence through a patient-centered, goal-oriented approach.
We emphasize the active involvement of patients and caregivers throughout the rehabilitation journey. A multidisciplinary team-consisting of rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language and cognitive therapists, nutritionists, and social workers-works collaboratively to support each patient's unique needs.
From intensive inpatient rehabilitation to community and home-based programs, we deliver personalized interventions that restore mobility, reduce disability, and promote holistic recovery.
Collaborative, Goal-Oriented Care Across Subspecialties
We provide specialized care across a wide range of rehabilitation subspecialties, including stroke, spinal cord disorders, movement disorders, pediatric rehabilitation, pain management, sports injuries, foot and ankle conditions, lymphedema, orthotics and prosthetics, and electrodiagnostic medicine.
Our multidisciplinary team delivers integrated, evidence-based rehabilitation tailored to each patient. We offer comprehensive caregiver training, individualized patient education, and coordinated discharge planning to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home or community care.
We apply the latest medical technologies-including non-invasive brain stimulation, robotic-assisted therapy, and comprehensive neurorehabilitation programs-to improve functional outcomes.
For pediatric patients, we offer botulinum toxin injections for spasticity and hippotherapy to support balance and motor function in children with developmental or neuropsychiatric conditions. Cancer rehabilitation inc
Specialized Expertise
Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation
We provide advanced rehabilitation for patients with stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological disorders. Treatment focuses on restoring functional abilities in various domains based on neuroplasticity.
Cancer Rehabilitation
Our cancer rehabilitation program supports patients before, during, and after cancer treatment. We also offer prehabilitation to improve functional reserve before surgery, helping patients maintain mobility, strength, and quality of life throughout the cancer care journey.
ICU Rehabilitation
We are actively involved in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to prevent ICU-acquired weakness and maintain functional capacity during critical illness. Physical and occupational therapy are initiated early?even for patients on mechanical ventilation or advanced cardiopulmonary support.
Integrating Technology in Rehabilitation
We continuously adopt emerging technologies into rehabilitation outcomes. Advanced modalities are selected based on each patient's condition and supported by ongoing clinical research to refine treatment protocols and define optimal target populations. Our team is committed to scientific innovation, participating in national and institutional studies to improve treatment precision and outcomes.
We also leverage digital health devices-such as wearable sensors or AI-based platforms-to enhance engagement, personalize care, and extend rehabilitation into home settings. This technology-enabled care model promotes adherence and accelerates recovery.
