Radiation Oncology
Precision and Innovation in Radiation Oncology
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Samsung Medical Center delivers personalized, multidisciplinary radiotherapy using advanced imaging and precision techniques.
Our approach integrates cutting-edge technologies, robust multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based practices to maximize therapeutic outcomes, minimize side effects, and enhance patient quality of life. Through continuous innovation and compassionate care, we strive to set global benchmarks in radiation oncology.
Advanced Image-Guided & Proton Therapy
Our department offers sophisticated radiotherapy through MRI-based planning, intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT), respiration-gated radiotherapy (RGRT), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). We specialize in advanced respiratory management techniques to ensure precise and accurate radiation delivery, particularly for thoracic and abdominal tumors.
Our Proton Therapy Center, operational since 2015, incorporates advanced modalities such as pencil-beam scanning, cone-beam CT (CBCT)-guided proton therapy, intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT), stereotactic proton therapy, and respiratory-gated proton therapy, providing unmatched precision and minimal toxicity.
Specialized Expertise
Multidisciplinary Tumor Boards & Clinics
We conduct comprehensive, site-specific tumor boards across various cancer types, collaborating closely with surgical, medical, and pediatric oncology teams. This ensures well-coordinated, personalized care based on the latest evidence.
Hypofractionation & SBRT Expertise
Our department actively embraces modern approaches, including hypofractionated radiotherapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). We have extensive experience providing shorter, highly effective treatments tailored to individual patient conditions.
Pioneering Proton Therapy Research
We lead proton therapy advancements through extensive clinical experience and continuous research. Our ongoing investigations include experimental techniques such as FLASH radiotherapy, underscoring our commitment to innovation and patient benefit.
