Trust your health to the best-where experience meets innovation.
All Organs, All Excellence
Samsung Medical Center is the only hospital in Korea where all types of abdominal organ transplants are performed under one surgical division. We have performed more than 3,500 kidney transplants, with over 150 of each performed annually. We have also completed 68 pancreas transplants and islet transplants. Notably, we are the only center in Korea to have successfully performed two uterus transplants. (As of April 2025)
We are equally committed to the care of living donors. We provide long-term follow-up for over 2,000 kidney and liver donors and were the first in Korea to establish a donor quality-of-life tracking system - an initiative designed to protect and improve the well-being of living donors.
Specialized Expertise
Minimally Invasive, Maximally Advanced
Samsung Medical Center leads in minimally invasive transplant surgery through the integration of advanced surgical technologies. All living donor liver resections are now performed using laparoscopic techniques. We are also expanding the use of robot-assisted kidney transplantation, improving both recovery time and patient satisfaction.
One Team, One Process, One Goal
Our integrated transplant care system brings together experts from transplant surgery, nephrology, gastroenterology, anesthesiology, urology, infectious diseases, radiology, pathology, and critical care medicine to collaborate toward a shared goal. Through regular multidisciplinary meetings and a streamlined one-stop care system, we provide patient-centered, coordinated treatment across entire continuum of care.
Korean Expertise, Global Impact
Samsung Medical Center's Division of Transplant Surgery plays a key role in international liver transplantation collaboration. Through an MOU with Mongolia's National Cancer Center, SMC trains local staff, hosts fellowships, and helps build transplant infrastructure. Our team has also performed living-donor liver transplants and shared surgical expertise in Egypt and Vietnam.
