Patent Ductus Arteriosus

PDA is usually diagnosed by echocardiography. In adults, a heart CT scan is often done as well. During catheter-based treatment, an angiography is used to check the size, length, and shape of the PDA.

PDA is often closed by placing a device through a catheter to block the vessel. This procedure is now possible even in premature babies. If catheter-based closure isn’t possible, surgery may be needed.
