Diagnosis of Pediatric Sarcoma
The MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the involved sites, and biopsy is needed for diagnosis of pediatric sarcoma. The type of biopsy depends, in part, on the size of the mass and whether it is close to the surface of the skin or deeper in the tissue. The tissue will be studied with immunohistochemistry, cytogenetic analysis, molecular test for characterization of certain types of cancer.
Stages of Pediatric Sarcoma
For staging work up, MRI and/or Computed Tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET) scan, bone scan, bone marrow examination are conducted. The rhabdomyosarcoma staging system consist of pretreatment clinical stage and postoperative clinical group. The sites of the tumor, tumor invasion, lymph node invasion, metastasis are evaluated for the staging system.
