How is Stroke treated?

Treatments for Stroke

Ischemic stroke

  • Clot dissolving medications(tPA): Given within a few hours of symptom onset.
  • Mechanical thrombectomy: A procedure to remove the clot, available in eligible patients up to 24~72 hours.
  • Blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs: To prevent future strokes.
  • Management of underlying conditions: Such as atrial fibrillation or carotid artery disease.

Hemorrhagic Stroke

  • Blood pressure control: To prevent further bleeding
  • Surgery: May be required to remove blood or repair a damaged vessel (e.g., aneurysm repair)
  • Supportive care: Monitoring and managing brain swelling, and rehabilitation.
