Specialized, Team-Based Critical Care Across All ICUs with Dedicated Expert Staff

The Critical Care Center at Samsung Medical Center delivers comprehensive care for critically ill patients through a physician-led, multidisciplinary approach. Each ICU-medical, surgical, cardiac, and neurosurgical-is staffed by intensivists with specialty-specific expertise.

They work closely with certified critical care nurses, including those trained in CRRT, respiratory care, and rehabilitation, to ensure seamless bedside care. Infectious disease specialists join daily rounds to provide expert guidance on antimicrobial therapy and infection control. Clinical pharmacists, nutritionists, and rehabilitation therapists also participate in collaborative care planning. This team-based model ensures timely, evidence-based treatment, enhancing both survival and long-term recovery.

Integrated Multidisciplinary Critical Care

At Samsung Medical Center, the Critical Care Center provides fully integrated, multidisciplinary care across all ICUs. Board-certified intensivists with expertise in internal medicine, surgery, cardiology and neurology lead each unit-medical, surgical, cardiac, and neurosurgical-with specialized clinical oversight. These physicians coordinate care in collaboration with certified nurses, CRRT-trained staff, respiratory specialists, and rehabilitation-focused nurses who bring advanced bedside skills to complex cases.

A dedicated ECMO team-comprising cardiothoracic surgeons, specially trained nurses, and perfusionists-is always on standby for rapid deployment in critical situations. Clinical pharmacists, nutritionists, and physical therapists participate in daily rounds and care planning, ensuring comprehensive support tailored to each patient's condition.

Our structured team approach enables timely decision-making and the delivery of advanced therapies such as mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy, and early mobilization. As a tertiary referral center, we are committed to high-quality, patient-centered care that improves survival, reduces complications, and supports functional recovery.
