
Highest stage achieved across four HIMSS assessment categories
Samsung Medical Center announced that it has been recertified at Stage 7—the highest level—in both the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and the Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM) by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The recertification comes three years after the hospital first achieved Stage 7 status in 2023.
EMRAM measures how effectively a healthcare organization has adopted and operates electronic medical records, while DIAM evaluates the maturity of digital transformation in medical imaging.
With this recertification, Samsung Medical Center now holds Stage 7—the highest possible rating—across four HIMSS categories, also including the Infrastructure Adoption Model (INFRAM) for IT infrastructure and the Analytics Maturity Adoption Model (AMAM) for data analytics systems.
HIMSS is widely regarded as the world's most authoritative accrediting body for evaluating the digital maturity of healthcare organizations, with the goal of improving care quality and patient safety. "This recertification confirms that our AI transformation capabilities meet the highest global standards," said Professor Kyu Sung Lee of the Department of Urology, who heads Samsung Medical Center's AI Transformation (AX) Task Force. "Over the next three years, we will further expand our use of AI to strengthen our position as a global leader in AI-driven healthcare."

This year's HIMSS evaluation—the first since Samsung Medical Center launched its AX Task Force in June—gave high marks to the hospital's enterprise-wide AI governance framework, patient-facing applications, and "Smart Ward"s.
Evaluators reportedly took particular note of technologies developed in direct response to feedback from patients and staff. Beyond a patient application that automatically adapts to each stage of a patient's care journey, the hospital's smart rooms feature a smart toilet that measures pulse and body temperature while a patient is seated, and a smart mirror that detects irregular heart rates and issues voice alerts. HIMSS reviewers described these features as evidence of the hospital's "thoughtful, patient-centered design."
The evaluation also highlighted an upcoming nurse scheduling system as a promising development to watch. Developed in-house at Samsung Medical Center, the system automatically generates department-wide schedules with a single click and is slated for rollout later this year.
