Do breast calcifications mean I have cancer?
- In most cases, no. The large majority of breast calcifications are benign and are simply a normal part of breast tissue changes. Only certain patterns raise concern, and those are evaluated further to be sure.
Are calcifications caused by having too much calcium in my diet?
- No. Breast calcifications are not related to the amount of calcium you eat or drink, and changing your calcium intake will neither cause nor prevent them.
Do calcifications need to be removed?
- Usually not. Benign calcifications are simply left in place and monitored. A biopsy is considered only when the pattern looks suspicious and a tissue sample is needed to be certain.
