Diagnosis of Pediatric Nephrotic Syndrome
- Urine tests: Detects heavy proteinuria
- Blood tests: Show low serum albumin, high cholesterol, and possibly elevated creatinine
- Kidney biopsy: Considered in atypical or steroid-resistant cases
Treatments for Pediatric Nephrotic Syndrome
Symptom Management:
- Albumin with diuretics: To manage edema
- Antibiotics or anticoagulants: For complications such as infection or thrombosis
Disease Control:
- Corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone, prednisolone): First-line treatment
- Immunosuppressants (e.g., calcineurin inhibitors, cyclophosphamide, rituximab): For steroid-dependent or resistant cases
- ACE inhibitors or ARBs: To reduce proteinuria
- Education: Teach families to monitor for relapse and use home urine dipsticks
