Stay Beautiful with A to Z Guide to Sunscreen

Why Is Sunscreen Necessary?

  • 1
Types and Characteristics of UV Radiation

UVA can penetrate into the dermis and affect the skin all the year round, causing skin aging and discoloration like melisma and freckles.
UVB can penetrate only into the epidermis and stimulates the production of vitamin D. Its radiation increases in high mountains or in summer and can result in sunburn, skin aging, skin cancer, and cataracts.

    Sun Protection Rating

UVA protection is measured in PA (Protection Grade of UVA). More plus signs (+) mean stronger protection.
For UVB, SPF (Sun Protection of Factor) is used. The higher the number is, the more effective a sunscreen is.
However, higher ratings also mean that the skin can get more irritated and vitamin D production decreases. So, rather than choosing the highest rating, using one suitable for situations and skin conditions is recommended.

What Sunscreen Should I Choose?

Choose one that irritates the skin less, lasts longer, and protects you from a wider types for UV rays. Don’t forget that sunscreen expires in a year after opening it.
If you stay indoors, PA++, SPF 15 to 30 (for summer) is suitable. If you go outside, a product over PA++ and between SPF 30 to 50 is recommended.
