Samsung Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Introduces Latest Non-scar Procedure vNOTES
Samsung Medical Center’s research team led Professor Tae Joong Kim and Fellow Myeong Seon Kim introduced a state-of-the-art non-scar procedure called transVaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES). vNOTES is a gynecological procedure of performing surgery through the female genitalia instead of incising the skin during the laparoscopic surgery.
Compared to conventional methods, such as single port laparoscopy, vNOTES is relatively easy to use in surgery, and there is low risk of infection, allowing patients to be discharged one to two days after the surgery. However, it still has limitations because unlike the open laparoscopic surgery, it is difficult to keep sight of adjacent organs to rule out the risk of damaging them.
vNotes is mainly used for patients, who need an incision of uterus, ovarian fallopian tube, or pelvic lymph nodes and have an experience of vaginal delivery.
